L'ECO DI BERGAMO, incontro con A. Castiglioni, 1982

Proposing light is our job.

It has been already 40 years since, in 1977, brothers Enzo and Roberto Catellani gave life to Puntoluce, a space in the centre of the city of Bergamo where to sell not just lamps, but light. The study of the logo and the corporate identity are entrusted to Enrico Baleri, renowned designer and entrepreneur from Bergamo. These were years of great ferment in the world of industrial design, years when the lamps designed by Magistretti, Scarpa, Castiglioni (guest of Puntoluce) are consecrated permanently as symbol of the great Italian design. The Catellani’s brothers decided to approach this reality becoming distributors of the most important Italian lighting brands such as Flos, Artemide, Fontana Arte, Oluce. Even the exposure, expertly designed by Baleri, reflects this choice through a clean and modern approach, distinguishing itself from contemporary chandeliers stores, full of glass, fabric lampshades, chains and crystal drops. The 80s bring a wave of innovation in the world of light: words such as lighting calculations and lighting project become common; the birth of new light sources, such as low voltage dichroic that introduces a new range of smaller size and higher performance spotlights, revolutionizes the way of designing the light. Important projects about street lighting and churches date back to those years; more common the projects for exhibitions, shops, private residences. As a result, Puntoluce becomes a reference point for many architects and designers that start to realize the importance of light already in the design phase. To this day, there are already thousands of projects in Italy and in the world. Thanks to the enormous experience and deep knowledge acquired in 40 years, Roberto Catellani and Puntoluce’s staff continue to propose and spread, no lamps, but a real culture of light, leading individuals and professionals to the best choice and always remembering that the light, as well as technical and functional aspect, is pure emotion.
